As a college student, Maggie had the pleasure of studying abroad in Florence, Italy where she studied The History of Fabrics as well as Retail Design and Merchandising. Equipped with a command of architecture along with a mastery of textiles, Maggie uses her knowledge of scale and symmetry and her understanding of modern sensibility to turn houses into homes and dreams into realities. Perfect for relaxing and taking respite, the bedrooms were intentionally designed with a Zen-like quality. The master is swathed in neutral grasscloth with the upholstered bed in a Belgian linen as the focal point. Luxe, crisp white linens dress the bed, while embroidered draperies cover the windows for softness.

The original screened-in porch needed some TLC, so while we were at it during construction, we changed it to an open airport with a pretty blue ceiling in Benjamin Moore’s Ice Cap. We couldn’t miss an opportunity to have a traditional Southern “Haint blue” ceiling! With the help of Brian Hughes of The Simpson Company, we worked together to find a space for me. In fact, when David and Brian found the cottage that is now mine, it wasn’t even for sale, and the family who owned it hadn’t planned to sell it just yet. However, David and Brian are a wealth of knowledge, and a powerhouse real estate team, so I trusted them completely.

Pace and Kayne Griffin, which has operated in Southern California for over a decade, have a strong history of collaboration. Over the past five years, the two galleries have developed an unprecedented working partnership, after James Turrell first brought them together, sensing a natural synergy. Perhaps one of the most eye-catching features of the home is its exterior vignettes — intimate spaces for sunset-viewing, watching leaves fall to the forest floor, and sipping a glass of wine as the autumn chill rolls in.
Even before construction began, I had a vision for the house and trusted our friend and contractor, Kevin Flack of Treadstone Construction to help us make it happen. With much care and attention to the original charm, character, and details of the home, we made it into the perfect studio space for my interior design business. La Brea Ave, which features key elements designed by James Turrell, will become Pace’s new west coast flagship. The 15,000-square-foot Los Angeles gallery space, which occupies the site of a 1940s Californian auto showroom, features a permanent Skyspace by Turrell unique to the city. The indoor-outdoor design and expansive courtyard will become a site for Pace Live public programming, as well as outdoor sculpture exhibitions and other events, cementing the space as a fixture in the local art scene.

It’s been a roller coaster project, but I’ve loved every second of it. Working on and off with the project for about two years, the Maggie Griffin Design team created a nature-inspired aesthetic that merges older vintage pieces with modern art and fabrics. To achieve the right look, Maggie also employed a color scheme that includes greens, blues, and earth tones galore — just the right shades to honor the Gainesville landscape.
We often joke we, along with a few other new Maggie Griffin Design faces, are the modern day version of “Designing Women”. While just a few short months have passed since we welcomed friends, family, and clients through our doors, the process for my office and studio has been in the works for quite some time. For the better part of the last year, I’ve been working on the planning and renovation of the office space and studio for Maggie Griffin Design. While that process was completed in a little under 5 months, my husband, David, and I have been scouting potential houses for me to renovate for my office space for roughly two years.
